Abu Dhabi Racing (ADR) drivers Sheikh Khalid bin Faisal Al Qassimi and Khaled Al Qubaisi will be seen in action at this weekend’s 29th edition of the Race of Champions (ROC), which will take place from February 2-3 at the King Fahd International Stadium.
The Race of Champions is coming to the Middle East for the first time ever and will be running over two days – the ROC Nations Cup on Friday, February 2, where drivers pair up in teams based on nationality – including hosts Saudi Arabia – to bid for the title of “World’s Fastest Nation”.
Both Sheikh Khalid (a multiple Middle East Rally Champion and a regular on the World Rally Championship), winner of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, and recently classified in 6th at the 2018 edition of the famed Dakar Rally, and Khaled Al Qubaisi (an FIA World Endurance Championship runner-up and also a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Dubai) both have been selected to represent the UAE in the ROC Nations Cup.
The UAE has been drawn to race against Saudi Arabia and Lebanon in Group C in the first round. The winner of this group will then proceed to compete in the semifinal against the winner of Group A, with the winner of this group then moving to the final.
On Saturday, February 3, the Race of Champions will witness a flat-out battle for individual glory where they will battle for just two places in the individual Race of Champions.
The duo will also compete in the ROC Factor Skills Challenge course on Wednesday.
Sheikh Khalid said: “I would like to thank Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation for the invitation to represent my beloved country at the Race of Champions in Riyadh. The event is very prestigious and well known all over the world. The level of competition between the best of the best in motorsport will be at its top.
“This is our first participation at the ROC. We aim to enjoy and gain experience from the event, which actually is a huge festival that brings together some of the best drivers from different racing formats.
“We will face some huge challenges given the presence of some of the best in the business. We have been following them closely over the years in this type of challenge and are aware that it will be a tough road ahead but we will aim for the best possible result.”
A non-stop show from start to finish, the Race Of Champions will also feature stunt shows on four and two wheels, in addition to plenty of other entertainment to keep racing enthusiasts engaged.
